How to prepare for Mythos AI (it's not what you think)

The recent Shipping Conference at the Singapore Maritime Week (20th – 24th April) certainly made the news. Well, with over 20,000 attendees from over 80 countries, it was bound to make a bit of a splash.

And not surprisingly, perhaps, the Middle East was the centre of attention. And delegates left with the message that the impact of the conflict there will be far more damaging than most people realise. That we don’t know what’s going to hit us.

Possibly.

But there was another meeting earlier in the month that was arguably of even greater importance.

How to prepare for Mythos AI
(it’s not what you think)

Prepare for Mythos AI

On April 7th, the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent called for an emergency meeting in Washington at very short notice. The Chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, was there, along with leading bank executives.

Regulators and Central Banks had sounded the alarm about Mythos, the advanced AI model developed by Anthropic.  The fear is that we are on the cusp of a complete shift in cybersecurity. Even Anthropic have stated: ‘the fallout for economies, public safety, and national security – could be severe’.

Banks will certainly be targeted.

JPMorgan are reported to be the first to test the model, with Goldmans, Citigroup, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley also lining up.

Technology is not the key to defence

But here’s the thing. One of the key takeaways from that meeting in Washington was that technology is not the key to defence against this pending cybersecurity.

Nope. It’s communication

Organisations that lack integration of data, processes, and decision-making are going to suffer.

Those that tend to work in silos make it difficult to spot patterns. And many banks do have a legacy of this: Compliance and Risk, Products, and Channels, for example.  Communication between these lines of business is often very poor, even non-existent.

On top of that, there is also the possibility of employees not really buying in to this whole new world of AI. After all, many see it as a threat to their jobs.

Now is the time to develop and enhance cross functional teams

So whereas the disruption to shipping is likely to cause a great deal of hardship, the issues are largely identifiable and tangible.

Not so with Mythos. And it’ll be very tempting for those in senior positions to let their IT teams call all the shots. That won’t be enough. Now is the time to develop and enhance cross functional teams.

Put resources into soft skills, and avoid having a soft belly.

Tales from the Media Room
How the Media Industry has Changed

media landscape changed

My 'tales from the media piece' this week arose from a conversation we had about making a video for our newsletter. The plan is to do a 'walk and talk' on Victoria Peak talking about our services using a smart phone only! Yes, in 2026, one simply needs a small phone to create a beautifully edited short feature.

This particular office meeting and talking about this short video prompted me to think about how much the media industry (and especially production) has changed since I started broadcasting in the 90's.

Meet the Connect Media Team!

Connect media team

Trust is eroding. AI is accelerating. Scrutiny is relentless. Today’s leaders must do more than show up — they must perform.

Under studio lights or in front of large audiences, even experienced executives can stumble: talking too long, sounding defensive, being caught off guard…

Get it right, however, and the media becomes a powerful platform — amplifying your story, extending your influence, and protecting your reputation.

Connect’s Media Team is one of the most experienced in Asia Pacific, combining decades of frontline journalism, live broadcasting, and global newsroom leadership.

We train leaders to stay calm under pressure, land key messages, and turn tough interviews into opportunities.
